PHILLIPS, William Newton "Newt," 83, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Since February 2004, he made his home at Lakewood Manor. Mr. Phillips was born July 16, 1927 in New Church, Va. He was the youngest son of the late Eslie R. Phillips Sr. and Myrtle J. Phillips. He was predeceased by his wife, Robin Hooper Phillips; and is survived by one son, William "Bill" N. Phillips Jr. and his wife, Julie; grandson, William "Will" N. Phillips III; one brother, Eslie R. Phillips Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Robin Hooper Phillips; and is survived by one son, William "Bill" N. Phillips Jr. and his wife, Julie; grandson, William "Will" N. Phillips III; one brother, Eslie R. Phillips Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Phillips graduated from the University of Virginia in 1950 and began his law career with a degree from T.C. Williams at the University of Richmond. He enjoyed a 37-year active and reserve duty career as a Navy pilot, advancing to Captain. During his 50-year law career, he served as special justice judge for the county of Henrico. He was dedicated to working in First Baptist Church, where he served as superintendent of Sunday School, chairman of the Board of Deacons and trustee.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 (today) at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. His funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 4 at First Baptist Church, 2709 Monument Ave., Richmond, Va. 23220. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.
