SHEARON, Virginia Frances Howery, died on September 13, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James Robert Shearon; and a sister, June Scott.

Born on May 1, 1927 in Glendale, Ohio to Eddie Downs and Ida Custer Howery, the family later moved to Salem, Virginia. She graduated from Roanoke College in 1949 and earned her M.R.E. from the W.M.U. Training School (Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) in 1953. She served as the first Minister to Children at First Baptist Church, Richmond, from 1953 to 1955, where she remained a lifelong...

Born on May 1, 1927 in Glendale, Ohio to Eddie Downs and Ida Custer Howery, the family later moved to Salem, Virginia. She graduated from Roanoke College in 1949 and earned her M.R.E. from the W.M.U. Training School (Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) in 1953. She served as the first Minister to Children at First Baptist Church, Richmond, from 1953 to 1955, where she remained a lifelong member. She is survived by her sister, Peggy Greene; her children, Linda Wistrand (Harry), Jim (Pat), Judy Bice (Tim), Marie Bailey (Stuart); and her grandchildren, Robbie (Kim), Christopher (Katie), Kate (John), Becca, Hannah, Coleman; one great-grandchild (MaKayla); and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017. A memorial service will be held on September 23, 2017, at 12 noon, First Baptist Church, with a reception following.
