Roland C. Houghton, Jr. 11/9/26 - 12/2/12 Born in Portsmouth, VA, Roland married Clare Graybeal of Radford, VA in 1956. Clare preceded him in death along with his son David Clay. Roland is survived by his sons Gray and Patrick, and grandchildren Christina, Gray Jr. and Henry. He served in the US Navy in World War II in the Pacific aboard BB42, USS Idaho. He saw action at Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and was in Toyko Bay for the signing of the Japanese surrender. He was employed by Dominion Power for 37 years, retiring as...

Roland C. Houghton, Jr. 11/9/26 - 12/2/12 Born in Portsmouth, VA, Roland married Clare Graybeal of Radford, VA in 1956. Clare preceded him in death along with his son David Clay. Roland is survived by his sons Gray and Patrick, and grandchildren Christina, Gray Jr. and Henry. He served in the US Navy in World War II in the Pacific aboard BB42, USS Idaho. He saw action at Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and was in Toyko Bay for the signing of the Japanese surrender. He was employed by Dominion Power for 37 years, retiring as Director of Regulatory Accounting. He was a charter member of Three Chopt Presbyterian Church in 1965 and was honored as Elder Emeritus in 2006. He attended Bluefield College and earned his BA and MC degrees at the University of Richmond in 1951 and 1963. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roland's name should be made to Lukeswings.org or Emory and Henry College. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 6th from 6-8 pm, and the memorial service and reception will be held on Friday, December 7th at 1 pm, both at Three Chopt Presbyterian Church. Internment will be private.
