Gloria Pollard Thompson, "Ms. T" or "Granny T," 90, passed away at Sunrise of Richmond on February 1, 2014. Born in Richmond, Va., she graduated Thomas Jefferson High School in 1940, State Teachers College at Farmville (Longwood) in 1944 and later received her Master's Degree in Education from VCU. She taught school at John B. Cary, Longan Elementary and later became the first elementary guidance teacher in Henrico County at Glen Lea Elementary. Gloria Pollard Thompson, "Ms. T" or "Granny T," 90, passed away at Sunrise of Richmond on February 1, 2014. Born in Richmond, Va., she graduated Thomas Jefferson High School in 1940, State Teachers College at Farmville (Longwood) in 1944 and later received her Master's Degree in Education from VCU. She taught school at John B. Cary, Longan Elementary and later became the first elementary guidance teacher in Henrico County at Glen Lea Elementary. She loved teaching children how to swim but her main love was coaching diving. She was a competitive diving coach at The Country Club of Virginia, The University of Richmond and also taught at other area pools and clubs. She was still coaching diving at 80. She belonged to the Tuckahoe Womens Club, The Country Club of Virginia, River Road Church Baptist and several national diving associations. She is survived by a first cousin, Virginia Ann Ricketts; and a number of other cousins, friends and numerous divers and swimmers. A memorial service will be held at River Road Church, Baptist in the Chapel at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014.
