CARLETON, Eleanor (Honor) Koenig, of Richmond, Va. and formerly of Washington, D.C. and Bethesda, Md., died Monday, June 12, 2017. She was born March 15, 1924 in Washington, D.C., and moved frequently as the child of an Army officer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Frederick A. Carleton Sr. She is survived by three sons and a daughter, Fred Carleton Jr. (Martha), Jim Carleton (Cammy), Betty King (Ken) and Dick Carleton (Cathy); and 11 grandchildren, Justin Perkinson, Ashley and Fred Carleton, Katie, Liz and Andrew Carleton, Bryan and Chris Jarrett...

CARLETON, Eleanor (Honor) Koenig, of Richmond, Va. and formerly of Washington, D.C. and Bethesda, Md., died Monday, June 12, 2017. She was born March 15, 1924 in Washington, D.C., and moved frequently as the child of an Army officer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Frederick A. Carleton Sr. She is survived by three sons and a daughter, Fred Carleton Jr. (Martha), Jim Carleton (Cammy), Betty King (Ken) and Dick Carleton (Cathy); and 11 grandchildren, Justin Perkinson, Ashley and Fred Carleton, Katie, Liz and Andrew Carleton, Bryan and Chris Jarrett and Starke, Milly and Zach Carleton. Honor Carleton was a tireless volunteer active in her children's activities when they were young and fondly remembered by their friends. Later she was a member of/served the Sleepy Hollow Garden Club, Virginia Museum, Women's Club, Elizabeth Kates Prison Foundation, All Saints Episcopal Church, Lamb's Basket Food Bank, St. Paul's Episcopal Church lunch for the homeless, and countless others. She was an athlete and life-long advocate of physical activity enjoying tennis, golf and a variety of exercise classes into her nineties. She was a beloved resident of Cedarfield retirement community for 14 years, enjoying many activities and involved in the dining and library committees.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hermitage at Cedarfield, 2300 Cedarfield Pkwy., Richmond, Va. 23233. Interment will be private.
