Dr. Carl D. Lunsford of Glen Allen, Virginia crossed the bar on November 5, 2011 at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his first wife Audrey Strong Lunsford, his parents Edward Burpee Lunsford and Mable Harris Lunsford, and his brother Norman Edward Lunsford.

He grew up in the Fairmount area of Richmond where he learned what life is all about. Carl graduated from John Marshall High School and attended the College of William and Mary, playing football there, before joining the Army. Following his WW II service, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of Richmond where he also received his Masters in Organic Chemistry. Dr. Lunsford received his PhD from the University of Virginia and began employment as a research chemist at A.H. Robins, retiring 36 years later as Senior Vice President of the Research and Development Division. He held numerous pharmaceutical patents, was a Life Member of the American Chemical Society, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Virginia Section. Carl loved the Chesapeake Bay where he enjoyed many years of fishing and boating. He was a past Commander of the Richmond Power Squadron and also served on the district and national levels. Carl was much loved and a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

He is survived by his wife Margrette "Midge" Lunsford, his daughters Bonnie L. Moyar (Russ), Debra L. Webb, Jan L. Major (Tom) and his grandchildren Elizabeth M. Louque (Tripp), Carl W. Moyar, Sarah Moyar Thacker (Peter), Michael P. Webb (Tracey), Hillary D. Major, and Kate M. Foreman (Noah); along with 5 great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, and one great loving dog, Chloe.

Visitation will be at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, 23229 on Tuesday November 8 from 3:30 to 6:30, with service there at 11 AM Wednesday. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association (online or 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060-9979), or a charity of your choice. And finally as Carl would say, "Keep it moving."
